I don't like lipgloss - I like Yves Saint Laurent

That was a very strange and slightly spoiled statement to make, I agree, but that's exactly how I feel about Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine. My heart skipped a beat as I read about them and fell more and more in love with them. The packaging is beautiful, the colours are beautiful and smell oh the smell is just devine. I mean just look at it!

I'll keep this short for fear I ramble ... (too late I hear them say)

Firstly the formula is gorgeous. So smooth and so soft and very hydrating. Usually lipsticks are made up of a combination of hard and soft waxes, so I'm told, and the Rouge Volupte Shine is mostly soft. As well as this it contains emollients to soften and smooth skin and our good friend hyaluronic acid - probably the reason I'm so in love with it.

The colour range is huge, broken into Beige, Coral, Red, Pink and Purple. Personally I'm dying to get my hands on some vibrant purples - especially No. 5 Fuchsia in Excess. Admittedly when I got my lipstick No. 11 Beige Instinct, the brown colour gave me 80s flashbacks. But I was beyond surprised when I first swatched it. Sheer, sparkling colour and the most subtle and beautiful nude tint. Many are in the search of the perfect "my lips only better" colour - this is hardly a colour, it's nude. Just nude. Only better.

Now everyone's natural lip colour is going to be different. So while this is buildable, there is always going to be some of your natural colour showing through somehow. But that just leads me to think that this would suit almost anyone.

So why the lipgloss claim? Well I just don't like lipgloss. It's not a look I like on me, and years of cheap, sticky, bubblegum pink formulas have me scarred for life.

But if I want to add a shimmering, eye-catching shine to my lips - this is what I will be reaching for. More beautiful and longer lasting than the sticky stuff. Expect to see me rocking this beauty for a very, very long time.

What's your perfect nude?
Or do you like nude lips at all?

  1. My perfect nude is MAC's Shy Girl, which is a cremesheen I think which makes it a little transparent like the YSL one - so it is very flattering on many people!

I have one YSL rouge volupte lipstick and I love it - but it is so creamy I feel like I use a lot of it and that scares me because I don't want to run out. I save that one for very special occasions.

    1. Oh I love creamsheen finishes! I don't have many MAC lipsticks (I've got 3) but I don't think I would like any other finish as much as I like creamsheen. Just looks so great and so moisturising - yep, definitely a great choice for a favourite nude!

      Which YSL do you have?

  2. This is beautiful! And exactly the kind of colour on the lips that I LOVE, but I never would have even looked at it at the counter because of how dark it looks. Will definitely be giving this a try next time I'm in BT :)

    1. Oh do! It's definitely your kind of colour! I'd say anything in the beige range would be, lovely and sheer with a hint of shimmer - it's perfect!!

  3. Hate lipgloss too!! The lipstick looks nice but I think it's too shiny for me - I only like matte lips on meself...mine look well weird with shine - it does look lovely on you though x
