7 Days of Skincare - Day 2 - Failing to Prepare...

"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail"

My biggest skin worry was, admittedly, quite shallow - I worries as to how it looked to other people. As much as I loved make-up and spent all that time working on it, my skin would let me down. I was afraid people would think - Who is she to talk about make-up when she can't get her skin sorted out.

The most important steps in make-up application are the steps before you even open your make-up bag. You need to prepare your skin. Prep - to many people this may mean putting on a primer before your foundation, but I'm talking even before that.

Skin needs moisture - healthy skin in hydrated skin. But layering on thick creams and serums is only going to work if your skin in prepared to accept it. This is where this first product comes in:

Benefit Moisture Prep Toning Lotion
(named Best Toner at Elle Beauty Awards 2011)

This is one of those does-what-it-says-on-the-tin products. As the name suggests this is more than just a toner, usually we associate toners with closing and tightening our pores after cleansing but this toning lotion readies our skin for the hydration that will come from our moisturiser. As a lotion, it's slightly gloopy (technical term) and almost seems like a serum - and spreads wonderfully. Using a cotton pad you sweep it over you face and in a matter of seconds ou can feel your skin plumping up and soothed. As I mentioned before, my skin tends to flush at the slightest thing - but Moisture Prep contains aloe leaf, vitamin E and other nice botanical things that sooth your skin as well as purifying it and preparing it to absorb the full effects of your moisturiser.

Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion

Benefit have tailored their skincare range to promote your skin's natural radiance. Radient skin the essence of the inner beauty Benefit are all about promoting - making you look like the best you can be, and it's all about bringing out the best in your skin. The triple action of this moisturiser comes in its delivery of hydration, protection and comfort. A day cream, its oil-free formula skins in quickly without disappearing and keeps skin comfortable and hydrated without looking shiny - perfect for under make-up, or on no-make-up-days, I'll wear this all day and my skin will stay happy and won't look shiny or dry out over time. It also contains an SPF of 15 - always a winner, and it's suitable for all skin types  It's light non-greasy formula is perfect for during the day though, just what you want as it sinks in quick but keeps your skin soft and smooth under your foundation. The tri-radiance complex claims to capture and maintain water on the skin's surface - which is exactly the problem my skin has.

This was the first change I made in my routine - hydrating my skin has become a major priority of mine. Not only will your skin thank you now, but it's forward planning when it comes to anti-aging. While younger skin doesn't need anti-aging products, keeping it hydrated could very well protect against the onset of fine lines and keep skin looking radient (and therefore younger) for longer.

Fun fact, the surname of top skincare-guy who designed the range is "Perrier" like the water - what's not to love?! Check out their full range on the website or your local Benefit counter.

Have you tried any of these products, or were ou aware that Benefit had a skincare range?
Let me know what you think, this skin care week is all about sharing experiences and tips after all :)

Lots of love
Lisa
